依克多因又叫四氢甲基嘧啶羧酸。依克多因使嗜盐菌免受伤害，它有两大功能：

Ecdoine is also called tetrahydro methyl pyrimidine carboxylic acid. Ectoine protects halophilic bacteria from harm, and it has two functions:

1）保湿：它是维持渗透压平衡的重要物质，其独特分子结构具有很强的水分子络合能力，能使细胞内的游离水结构化，是非常优秀的天然保湿剂。
